LA CAPSULE DE CAFÉ
Easy to use
Coffee capsules have quickly become one of the most popular ways to consume coffee in recent years, and this is due to their convenience and ease of use. With just the push of a button, one can make a perfect espresso or lungo, over and over again. Unlike regular beans and ground coffee, the capsule keeps the coffee fresh for much longer.
Keeping coffee in its best possible condition requires dryness, and for it to be kept in airtight containers and in dark places. Sjöstrand’s coffee capsules provide these conditions, which keeps coffee optimally fresh for up to a year, though the coffee will remain safe for consumption and enjoyment long after that. There will be nothing wrong with the coffee other than the full flavour mellowing out a bit.
Sustainable and flavourful
Unlike a regular espresso or a cup of brewed coffee, the capsule can optimise the taste so that it’s possible to make a good espresso with only 5.5 grams of coffee. Regular espresso or brewed coffee requires as much as 10 grams of coffee per cup.
As the production of the coffee beans themselves have the most impact on our environment due to water consumption and transport, the coffee pod or capsule thus becomes a more environmentally friendly alternative per cup. But the capsule must then be made of an environmentally friendly material.
The type of capsule is significant
Sjöstrand manufactures its coffee capsules in a bioplastic material that is made from sugar cane fibres. The canister is compostable in an industrial compost facility. If you do not have access to a municipal industrial compost facility via, for example, biobags, it is possible to dispose of the canister together with the usual household waste as it is easy to burn. Since no metals are used in the production, no finite resources are wasted. The sugar cane fibres would have gone to waste directly if it weren’t for the purpose of the capsules, and is therefore also a better alternative than corn starch, which is produced from crops that could have been served as food.
In addition to having a long shelf life, another advantage is the single-serve convenience, which makes it easy to have different flavours for different moments without the risk of wasting coffee. This also allows one to stack up on several different flavours to match the preference of guests, for example.
